4.2 When you press on squares or keys, they do not react correctly, OR lamps do not light up correctly. | Bad contacts. Perform the following checks: Press the SET UP NEW GAME keys. The corresponding lamps should light up, accompanied by a beep. Press on each square of the chessboard one after the other, to check the sensitive contacts. The lamps should light up normally. Press successively on the keyboard keys, you will hear beeps, until you press SOUND. Press SOUND a 2nd time and continue. |

4.3 The lamps corresponding to Mate or Check do not light up. | Test these lamps in the following way: Press NEW GAME, MULTI MOVE, squares F2, F4, E7, E5, G2, G4, D8, H4. The CHECK and MATE lamps must light up. |

5. The computer makes an illegal move or cheats. | It made a special move such as: - En passant capture, - Castling (King or Queen side) - Promotion or under Promotion. |
Play its move. Check that you are familiar with these chess rules by reading the manual "HOW TO PLAY CHESS". Use the "value" keys to check where the pieces are located. Press TAKE BACK to return to the previous position and check again. This procedure will show you exactly what the computer did. Perform control tests 4.2 and 4.3, to verify that the computer is working normally. |
5. Computer makes illegal move or cheats (continued). | Some pieces are misplaced. Batteries are almost dead: - Weak sound. - Lower flashing frequency of the lamps. - Weak display. |
Play the computer's move and check the position using the "value" and COLOR keys. Replace the batteries, press ACL and try again. |
6. The computer, in the middle of a game, does not accept your move. | Batteries are almost dead. The computer has crashed. You are trying to play an illegal move. |
Replace the batteries. Refer to chapter 19. Look at the "color" lamp, is it your turn to play? - Is your King in check? - Will your move put your King in check? - Did you start your castling by moving the rook? - Illegal en passant or Promotion? Use the "value" and COLOR keys to control the position of the pieces. Reread chapters 3 to 6. |
7. A pawn moves like a Queen, a Rook, a Bishop or a Knight. | Pawn Promotion: the value of the piece has not been selected. The pawn has been promoted (chapter 4) |
Press the "value" key corresponding to the promoted piece. |
8. The King moves like a Queen. | The chessboard may have been reversed, in which case the Queen takes the place of the King. | Use the "value" and COLOR keys to verify the position on the board. Use the TAKE BACK function to go back as much as necessary and replay the game. Use the and COLOR keys to check where the Kings are. Read chapter 9. |
9. The computer does not respond. | It has not started to think. | Press PLAY. If the MULTI MOVE lamp is lit, see chapter 11. |
9.1 WHITE or BLACK light is on. | You have not waited long enough. It is still thinking. The highest levels can take much longer to respond than the average time. The most difficult mate problems take weeks to solve. |
Check the level and refer to the corresponding section of the manual. To interrupt, press PLAY |
10. The computer is silent. | The sound is cut off. | Press SOUND to turn the sound on. |
11. Computer does not work with its adapter. | Plug is not tight. Defective adapter. Adapter not compliant with manufacturer's specifications. |
Check the plug, that it is tight. If the computer works with batteries, but not with an adapter, the adapter is probably faulty. Consult your dealer. |
