Before Use

Playable Discs

This unit can play DVD video discs, Video CDs (VCD), Audio CDs, DVD-RW, SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW discs containing audio titles, MP3, WMA, or JPEG files.

Precautions

  • Handle discs carefully, avoid touching the playback side or attaching labels.
  • Do not use irregularly shaped discs.
  • Some playback operations may be fixed by software manufacturers and may not be available on this unit.
  • Ensure discs are compatible with the unit's regional code (Region 2).

Disc-related terms

  • Title: Main film content or feature content on DVD discs.
  • Chapter: Sections of a picture or music on DVD discs.
  • Track: Sections of a picture or music on Video CDs and Audio CDs.
  • Scene: Sections on Video CDs with PBC.

Types of video CDs

  • Video CDs with PBC (Version 2.0): Allow interaction via menus and search functions.
  • Video CDs without PBC (Version 1.1): Operate like Audio CDs.

Connections

TV Connections

Connect the DVD/CD Receiver to your TV using S-Video, Composite Video, Component Video, or SCART connections. Always turn off and unplug equipment before connecting.

Optional Equipment Connections

Connect additional VCRs, DVD players, or digital audio devices to the appropriate input connectors (AV1, AV2, OPTICAL IN, COAXIAL DIGITAL IN).

Aerial Connections

Connect the supplied AM Loop aerial and FM Wire aerial for radio reception.

Speaker System Connection

Connect the speakers using the supplied speaker cords, ensuring correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).

Proper positioning of front, center, rear speakers, and subwoofer is crucial for optimal surround sound.

Sound Mode

On-Screen Display

General playback status is displayed. Items can be changed using the remote control and on-screen menu.

Initial Setup

Adjust settings for the built-in 5.1 channel surround decoder, including volume, size, and distance for each speaker.

Operation

Playing a DVD and Video CD

Insert disc, press CD/DVD, and use playback controls (PLAY, STOP, PAUSE, SKIP, etc.). Menus can be accessed and navigated.

General Features

Includes functions like Moving to another TITLE/CHAPTER/TRACK, Search, Pause, Still Picture, Slow Motion, Repeat A-B, Repeat (Title/Chapter/Track/All), Time Search, 3D Surround, Zoom, Marker Search, Special DVD Features (Title Menu, Disc Menu, Camera Angle), Changing Audio Language/Channel, and Subtitles.

Playing an Audio CD and MP3/WMA Disc

Insert disc, select mode, and use playback controls. Notes on MP3/WMA recording compatibility are provided.

Operation with JPEG Disc

View JPEG files from discs. Functions include Moving to another File, Still Picture, Flip/Rotate Picture, and Slide Speed control.

Programmed Playback

Store favorite tracks from CDs, MP3/WMA discs, or Video CDs to create a custom playback sequence. Tracks can be erased individually or the entire program can be cleared.

Speaker Setup

Additional settings for the surround decoder, including speaker selection, volume, size, distance, and testing.

Additional Information

Last Condition Memory: Remembers user settings and last stop position for discs. System Select: Choose the appropriate TV system mode (PAL, NTSC, AUTO).

Operation with Radio

Presetting the radio stations

Tune and store up to 50 FM and AM stations.

Listening to the radio

Select preset stations or tune manually. Radio reception can be improved by adjusting antennas or setting to MONO.

Other Function

Sleep Timer Setting

Set the receiver to turn off automatically at a specified time.

Dimmer

Adjust the brightness of the display window.

Mute

Mute the audio output.

Using Headphone Jack

Connect headphones to the PHONES connector. Speakers are automatically disconnected.

Selecting input source

Switch between various input sources like AV1, AV2, OPTICAL, COAXIAL, and TV-AUDIO.

Reception of RDS (Radio Data System) Stations

Receive RDS data including station identification and traffic information on FM stations.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Symptom Cause Correction
No power. • The power cord is disconnected. • Plug the power cord securely into the wall outlet.
The power is on, but the DVD/CD Receiver does not work. • No disc is inserted. • Insert a disc.
No picture. • The TV is not set to receive DVD signal output. • Select the appropriate video input mode on the TV so the picture from the DVD/CD Receiver appears on the TV screen.
• The video cable is not connected securely. • Connect the video cable into the jacks securely.
• The connected TV power is turned off. • Turn on the TV.
• The VIDEO OUTPUT SELECTOR is not set correctly (see page 9). • Make sure the VIDEO OUTPUT SELECTOR is set according to the connections (see page 10).
Scrolling or/and abnormal colour picture. • Wrong system selection. • Select the correct system according to the system of your TV (see page 27).
There is no sound or only a very low-level sound is heard. • The equipment connected with the audio cable is not set to receive DVD signal output. • Select the correct input mode of the audio receiver so you can hear the sound from the DVD/CD Receiver.
• The audio cables are not connected securely. • Connect the audio cable into the jacks securely.
• The power of the equipment connected with the audio cable is turned off. • Turn on the equipment connected with the audio cable.
• The audio connecting cable is damaged. • Replace it with new one.
The playback picture is poor. • The disc is dirty. • Clean the disc.
The DVD/CD Receiver does not start playback. • No disc is inserted. • Insert a disc.
• An unplayable disc is inserted. • Insert a playable disc. (Check the disc type, colour system and Regional code.)
• The disc is placed upside down. • Place the disc with the playback side down.
• The disc is not placed within the guide. • Place the disc on the disc tray correctly inside the guide.
• The disc is dirty. • Clean the disc.
• A menu is on the TV screen. • Press the SETUP button to turn off the menu screen.
• The Rating level is set. • Cancel the Rating function or change the rating level.
Loud hum or noise is heard. • The disc is dirty. • Clean the disc.
• The speakers and components are connected poorly. • Connect the speakers and components securely.
• The DVD/CD Receiver is located too close to the TV. • Move your TV away from the audio components.
Symptom Cause Correction
Radio stations cannot be tuned in. • The antenna is positioned or connected poorly. • Connect the antenna securely. • Adjust the antennas and connect an external antenna if necessary.
• The signal strength of the stations is too weak (when tuning in with automatic tuning). • Tune in the station manually.
• No stations have been preset or preset stations have been cleared (when tuning by scanning preset stations). • Preset the stations (page 28).
The remote control does not work properly. • The remote control is not pointed at the remote sensor of the DVD/CD Receiver. • Point the remote control at the remote sensor of the DVD/CD Receiver.
• The remote control is too far from the DVD/CD Receiver. • Use the remote control within about 23 ft (7 m).
• There is an obstacle in the path of the remote control and the DVD/CD Receiver. • Remove the obstacle.
• The batteries in the remote control are flat. • Replace the batteries with new ones.
The sound mode can- not be changed. • Sound mode not supported for MP3/WMA format. • Sound mode not supported for MP3/WMA format.
• The sound mode cannot be changed when in DTS or 5.1CH audio format. • Select 2CH (PCM) audio format to have pre-programmed sound field (see page 15).
The front panel display is too dim. • Nothing is displayed on the front panel display. • Press DIMMER on the remote control.
