Warranty Information

Refer to the warranty card for information regarding the serial number and warranty details.

  • Loading a disc: Power on the unit, open the tray, and place the disc with the label side up.
  • Starting playback:
    • For DVD video, audio CD, or VCD: Press the PLAY key. The tray will close automatically and playback will begin.
    • For DivX, MP3, WMA, or JPEG files: Select the desired file using the cursor keys and press the PLAY key or ENTER.
  • On-screen display: Press the ON SCREEN key during playback to view information like title number, chapter number, time search, audio language, and subtitle language.
  • Repeat play: Press the REPEAT key to cycle through modes like chapter, title, track, or all.
  • A-B Repeat play: Mark a starting point (A) and an ending point (B) to repeat a specific segment.
  • Program play: Select tracks in a desired order for playback.
  • Movie disc features: Includes STEP (freeze frame/frame advance), slow motion playback, selecting desired title/chapter/track, selecting audio language, selecting audio channel, selecting camera angle, and selecting subtitle language.
  • DivX/JPEG features: Includes DivX VOD information, JPEG playback, zoom function, rotating pictures, hiding the menu bar, slideshow, and listening to music while watching pictures.
  • Disc playback features for music: Displaying ID3 tag, random play, and 3D surround.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Symptom Cause Remedy
Playback does not start when the Play key is pressed. There is no disc in the player. Load a disc and press the Play key.
There are no signals recorded on the side of the disc being played. Turn the disc over and properly place it on the disc tray.
Playback starts but no image/sound is seen/heard. The TV is not turned on. Turn on the TV.
The connection cords are not properly connected. Properly reconnect the connection cords. (See pages 11-12)
The picture is disrupted when the image is fast forwarded or fast reversed. • The picture is slightly disrupted during fast forward and fast reverse operations. • This is not a malfunction.
No sound is heard. • The audio output cords are not properly connected. • Properly connect the audio cords. (See pages 11-12)
• The volume control of the TV or amplifier is not adjusted properly. • Set the sound volume to an appropriate level.
• The player is in a special playback mode. • Press the Play key to resume normal playback mode.
No picture is displayed. • Setting to progressive mode has been done for a TV not compatible with progressive mode. • Return to interlaced mode is made when the Stop key is pressed for at least 5 seconds.
The picture does not look good or the picture/sound quality is poor. A nearby device is generating noise. • Separate this unit as far as possible from the device you think is generating the noise.
• The disc is dirty. • Refer to the "Disc handling precautions" section and wipe dirt from the disc. (See page 10). Use a new disc.
• The disc is damaged. • Use a new disc.
• There is condensation on the optical lens. • Refer to the "Caution on condensation" section and evaporate the condensation. (See page 10)
It takes a while for the disc to start playing. Time is required for the unit to detect the disc type and size and for the rotation of the motor to stabilize. This is not a malfunction. • Approximately 10 to 20 seconds are required for a disc to start playing, although the time differs depending on the disc.
The tray opens automatically. • The disc is not placed horizontally. • Properly place the disc on the tray.
The top and bottom of the screen cannot be seen, or the screen becomes black-and-white. The video format of the disc being played does not match that of the connected TV monitor. Refer to the "Video formats" section, and use a disc with the appropriate video format for your TV or a TV with the appropriate video format for the disc. (See page 9)
The subtitle is not displayed. • The DVD disc being played does not contain the recording of subtitles. • The subtitle cannot be displayed when the DVD disc being played does not contain the recording of subtitles.
• The subtitle mode is set to off. • Press the SUBTITLE key to switch on the subtitle mode. (See page 28)
The voice (or subtitle) language cannot be changed. The DVD disc being played does not contain the recording of more than one audio (or subtitle) language. The voice (or subtitle) language cannot be changed when the DVD disc being played does not contain the recording of more than one voice (or subtitle) language.
The viewing angle cannot be changed. • The DVD disc being played does not contain the recording of more than one angle. The viewing angle cannot be changed when the DVD disc being played does not contain the recording of more than one angle.
• You are attempting to switch the angle in a DVD section where more than one angle is not recorded. • More than one viewing angle may be recorded only in limited sections in a disc.
Playback will not start even after a title is selected. • A viewing restriction (PARENTAL) has been set for the disc. • Check the viewing restriction level (PARENTAL) setting.
The parental level cannot be changed. You have forgotten the password. • Set the initial setup to the factory setup with the following procedure. ① Press the SETUP key on the remote to display the Setup menu. ② Input the 6-digit number "210499" and the security code is cleared. ③ Enter a new code. (See page 18)
The voice or subtitle language selected in the initial setting is not played. • The DVD disc being played does not contain the recording of the selected voice or subtitle language. Use a DVD disc containing the recording of the selected voice or subtitle language.
• The initial playback language is specified by the DVD disc. • Press SUBTITLE or the AUDIO key on the remote and select the language. (See pages 26-27)
• The DVD specifications provide for selection at the menu screen. • Select at the menu screen of the disc.
Menu screen messages are not shown in the desired language. • The menu language function (MENU) is not set to desired language. • Select disc menu language. (See page 16)
A VCD cannot be played using menus. The VCD disc being played is not compatible with P.B.C. • Menu playback is available only with VCD discs recorded with P.B.C.
Remote control operation is not possible. Batteries are exhausted. Replace with new batteries.
The remote control is too far away from the system, the controlling angle is deviated or there is an obstacle in between. Operate the unit inside the remote controllable range.
The inhibition icon is displayed and remote control is not possible. Playback is restricted intentionally by the software producer. • The operation is inhibited. Please try another operation.
