Shooting Tips

  • Holding the Camcorder: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, keep elbows tucked, and hold the camcorder steady with both hands.
  • Squatting: Kneel with one knee on the ground, rest elbow on knee, and hold camcorder steady.
  • Extending Hands: Extend your arm when the subject is hidden.
  • Panning: Rotate your body smoothly to follow a subject.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Solution
Battery Pack Unable to turn on: Recharge battery pack. Clean terminals. Use JVC battery packs.
Short usage time: Battery deterioration. Replace battery pack.
Unable to charge: Clean terminals. Use original battery pack.
Remaining battery display incorrect: Display may be incorrect when AC adapter is connected or after prolonged use/temperature extremes.
Recording cannot be performed: Check switch. Set to recording mode. Turn off, wait, restart.
DIS does not work: DIS does not work when recording still images.
Continuous shooting speed slow: Speed may drop with repeated use or under certain conditions.
Focus not adjusted automatically: Adjust focus manually in dark or low-contrast situations. Clean lens. Cancel manual focus.
Digital zoom does not work: Not available for still image recording or time-lapse shooting. Set ZOOM to "90x/DIGITAL" or "800x/DIGITAL".
Card: Cannot insert SD card: Ensure correct orientation.
Unable to copy to SD card: Perform media settings. Format SD card if used on other devices.
Playback: Sound or video interrupted: Normal for scene transitions.
Same image displayed long time: Replace or format SD card.
Motion choppy: Replace or format SD card.
Cannot find recorded file: Cancel search functions. Change media settings. Select "PLAYBACK MPG FILE".
No date/time display: Set "ON-SCREEN DISPLAY" and "DISPLAY ON TV" to "ON".
Images do not appear on TV properly: Disconnect/reconnect cables. Turn unit on/off.
Images projected vertically on TV: Set "VIDEO OUTPUT" to "4:3".
Images on TV too small: Set "VIDEO OUTPUT" to "16:9".
Unable to delete file: Release protection first.
Editing/Copying: Unable to dub to Blu-ray: Use AV cable for dubbing.
Unable to copy/move files to SD card: Check write protection switch.
PC: Unable to copy files to PC HDD: Connect USB cable correctly. Install software. Ensure sufficient disk space. Still images cannot be recorded to disk.
Unable to copy files to DVD: Requires recordable DVD drive.
Cannot upload to YouTube: Check YouTube account. Upload limit is 10 minutes. Cannot change file format on unit.
Cannot export to iTunes: Refer to "Click for Latest Product Info".
Screen/Image: LCD difficult to see in bright areas: Unit may appear difficult to see in bright sunlight.
Band/ball of light on LCD: Caused by bright light source, not a malfunction.
Recorded subject too dark: Use backlight compensation, "LIGHT", "NIGHT EYE", "GAIN UP", or adjust "BRIGHTNESS ADJUST" to "+".
Recorded subject too bright: Set backlight compensation to "OFF". Adjust "BRIGHTNESS ADJUST" to "-".
Color looks strange: Wait for white balance adjustment. Set "WHITE BALANCE" to "MANUAL" or adjust "MWB".
Other Problems: Slider/buttons do not work: Touch with fingers. Do not use fingernails or gloves. Displays do not work even if touched.
Unit operates slowly: Copy all files to PC and erase from unit.
Image is grainy: Occurs with digital zoom.
Unit heats up: Normal for long use.
Error Message: "CHECK LENS COVER": Open lens cover.
"SET DATE/TIME!": Charge battery >24 hours, then set clock. If persists, contact dealer.
