GETTING STARTED

This manual provides instructions for operating the JVC GR-DX78 camcorder. It covers basic functions such as:

  • Check AC adapter connection.
  • Ensure battery is attached firmly.
  • Replace dead battery.
Recording cannot be performed.
  • Check tape's erase protection tab.
  • Replace tape if "TAPE END" appears.
  • Close cassette holder cover.
Date/time does not appear during recording.Set "DATE/TIME" to "ON".
LCD monitor or viewfinder indications blink.Re-read sections covering Wipe/Fader effects, Program AE with special effects, and "DIS".
Digital Zoom does not work.
  • Select appropriate zoom setting (e.g., "40X" or "900X").
  • Set VIDEO/MEMORY Switch to "VIDEO".
Tape is moving, but there is no picture.
  • Set TV to the correct video input mode.
  • Close cassette holder cover.
  • Clean video heads with a cleaning cassette.
Focus does not adjust automatically.
  • Set Focus to Auto mode.
  • Clean lens if dirty or covered with condensation.
Snapshot mode cannot be used.Disengage Squeeze mode.
The colour of Snapshot looks strange.Find a white subject and compose shot accordingly.
Image taken using Snapshot is too dark.Press BACK LIGHT.
Image taken using Snapshot is too bright.Set "" to "SPOTLIGHT".
White Balance cannot be activated.Disengage Sepia or Monotone modes.
Black & White Fader does not work.Disengage Sepia or Monotone modes.
Image looks like shutter speed is too slow.Set "GAIN UP" to "AGC" or "OFF".
No E-MAIL CLIP STOREDEnsure video clip files are stored on the memory card.
CARD ERROR!Remove and re-insert memory card. If problem persists, card may be corrupted.
UNSUPPORTED FILE!Ensure file compatibility with the camcorder.
CHECK CARD'S WRITE PROTECTION SWITCHCheck write protection tab on SD Memory Card.
E01, E02 or E06Remove and reattach battery. Consult dealer if problem persists.
E03 or E04Eject and reinsert tape. Consult dealer if problem persists.
POWER/CHARGE lamp does not light during charging.
  • Charge in appropriate temperature range (10°C-35°C).
  • Ensure battery is attached firmly.
"SET DATE/TIME!" appears.Charge the clock's lithium battery for over 24 hours.
Files stored in memory card cannot be deleted.Remove protection from files before deleting.
When image is printed, black bar appears at bottom.Record with "DIS" activated.
Camcorder does not operate when connected via DV connector.Turn camcorder power off and on again.
Images on LCD monitor appear dark or whitish.
  • Adjust brightness and angle of LCD monitor.
  • Consult dealer if LCD monitor life has ended.
Coloured bright spots appear on LCD/viewfinder.This is normal and not a defect.
Cassette will not load properly.Ensure battery has sufficient charge.
Memory card cannot be removed.Push memory card several times.
Picture does not appear on LCD monitor.
  • Adjust viewfinder priority or LCD brightness.
  • Open monitor fully if tilted upward 180 degrees.
An error indication (E01–E04 or E06) appears.Consult dealer.
Remote control does not work.
  • Ensure "REMOTE" is set to "ON".
  • Point remote at sensor.
  • Replace batteries.
