  • Basic Recording: Remove lens cap, open LCD monitor, set power to "REC" (while pressing Lock Button), press Recording Start/Stop Button to begin recording. Press again to stop.
  • LCD Monitor/Viewfinder Use: Ensure viewfinder is pushed back when using LCD monitor. LCD monitor can rotate 270°. When using viewfinder, close and lock LCD monitor.
  • Zooming: Slide Power Zoom Lever towards "T" for zoom in, towards "W" for zoom out.
  • Playback: Load cassette, set power to "PLAY" (while pressing Lock Button), press ►/II to start playback. Press again to stop.
  • Menu Settings: Press MENU to access on-screen menus for detailed settings. Navigate with A/V and SET/> buttons.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No power is supplied. Power is not connected properly. Connect the AC Adapter securely.
Battery pack is not attached firmly. Detach and re-attach the battery pack firmly.
Battery is dead. Replace with a fully charged one.
Recording cannot be performed. Tape's erase protection tab is set to "SAVE". Set the tape's erase protection tab to "REC".
"TAPE END" appears. Replace with a new cassette.
Cassette holder cover is open. Close the cassette holder cover.
When shooting a subject illuminated by bright light, vertical lines appear. N/A This is not a malfunction.
When the screen is under direct sunlight, the screen becomes red or black for an instant. N/A This is not a malfunction.
During recording, the date/time does not appear. "DATE/TIME" is set to "OFF". Set "DATE/TIME" to "ON".
The LCD monitor or viewfinder indications blink. Effects and "DIS" functions that cannot be used together are selected. Re-read the sections covering Effects and "DIS".
Digital Zoom does not work. 32X optical zoom is selected. Set "ZOOM" to "64X" or "800X".
The tape is moving, but there is no picture. TV has AV input terminals but is not set to VIDEO mode. Set the TV to the appropriate mode or channel.
Cassette holder cover is open. Close the cassette holder cover.
Blocks of noise appear during playback, or there is no playback picture and the screen becomes blue. Dirty video heads. Clean the video heads with an optional cleaning cassette.
The focus does not adjust automatically. Focus is set to Manual mode. Set Focus to Auto mode.
Lens is dirty or covered with condensation. Clean the lens and check the focus again.
Snapshot mode cannot be used. 16:9 Wide mode is selected. Disengage the 16:9 Wide mode.
