  • Unpacking: Check for damage during shipment. Verify items against your order. Save shipping container.
  • Connecting USB: Connect the interface cable to the device, then to the computer. The scanner beeps upon successful connection.
  • Connecting RS232 Serial Port: Turn off power, connect the appropriate interface cable to the device and then to the computer's serial port. Power up the computer after connection. The interface programs 115,200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit by default.
  • Reading Techniques: Use the view finder to center the aiming beam on the barcode. Adjust distance based on barcode size. Tilt the scanner for highly reflective codes.
  • Factory Defaults: Scan the "Recall Default" barcode to reset all settings to factory defaults.
  • Firmware/Serial Number: Scan specific barcodes to retrieve the firmware revision number or product serial number.
  • Programming Interface: Scan the "RS232 Interface" or "USB HID Interface" barcodes to switch communication modes. The cable may need to be changed accordingly.
  • Data Editing: Configure CR/LF suffix settings to append specific characters or key presses after a scanned barcode.
  • Symbologies: Enable or disable various 1D, Postal, and 2D barcode symbologies using their respective configuration barcodes.
  • Product Specifications: Details on mechanical, electrical, environmental, image, scan performance, and depth of field parameters.
  • Maintenance: Clean the scanner window and housing with a soft cloth. Inspect cords and connectors for damage. Interface cables are field replaceable.
  • Troubleshooting: Basic checks for power, aimer illumination, symbol readability, bar code display, and incorrect reading. Refer to specific sections for detailed solutions.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Issue Possible Cause Solution
Scanner not reading symbols well Scanner window is dirty. Clean the window with a soft cloth or lens tissue dampened with water.
Symbols are smeared, rough, scratched, or have voids. Ensure the barcode itself is clean and undamaged.
Symbols are coated with frost or water droplets. Clean the surface of the barcode.
Symbols are not enabled in the scanner or decoder. Verify that the symbology is enabled (see Chapter 4).
Bar code displayed but not entered A suffix is needed to enter the data into the application. Program a suffix (refer to CR/LF Suffix Settings, page 3-1).
Scanner reads bar code incorrectly Scanner not programmed for the appropriate terminal interface. Reprogram the scanner with the correct Plug and Play barcode (see Programming the Interface, page 2-1).
Scanner not programmed to output data properly. Reprogram the scanner with proper symbology selections (see Chapter 4).
Scanner won't read bar code at all Barcode is not readable. Scan sample barcodes to verify scanner functionality. Check your barcode's readability.
Bar code symbology is disabled. Verify that your bar code symbology is enabled (see Chapter 4).
Programming options are set incorrectly or factory defaults are not restored. Scan "All Symbologies" (page 4-1) or restore factory default settings (page 1-4).
Is the power on? Is the aimer on? The cable is not connected properly. Check that the cable is connected properly.
Host system power is off (if external power isn't used). Ensure the host system power is on.
