Basic Operations:
  • Turning On/Off: Press the ON/OFF button.
  • Shooting: Press the shutter button halfway to focus, then fully to take a picture.
  • Playback: Turn the camera off, then press the playback button (►) to view images. Press the shutter button halfway to return to shooting mode.
  • Deleting Pictures: Display a picture in full frame and press the selector up (↑).
  • Silent Mode: Press and hold the DISP/BACK button to disable camera lights and sounds.

Troubleshooting and error codes

Warning Description
FRAME NO. FULL The camera has run out of frame numbers (current frame number is 999-9999). Format the memory card and select RENEW for FRAME NO. in the setup menu. Take a picture to reset frame numbering to 100-0001, then select CONTINUOUS for FRAME NO. (page 84).
PRESS AND HOLD THE DISP BUTTON TO DEACTIVATE SILENT MODE An attempt was made to choose a flash mode or adjust the volume with the camera in silent mode. Exit silent mode before choosing a flash mode or adjusting the volume (page 82).
TOO MANY FRAMES A search has returned more than 5,000 results, or more than 999 frames were selected for deletion. Perform a different search or select fewer pictures.
PROTECTED FRAME An attempt was made to delete to a protected picture. Remove protection and try again (page 77).
640 CAN NOT CROP Pictures can not be cropped.
CAN NOT CROP The picture is damaged or was not created with the camera.
M CANNOT EXECUTE An attempt was made to create a resized copy at a size equal to or larger than the original. Choose a smaller size.
S CANNOT EXECUTE An attempt was made to rotate a picture that can not be rotated.
640 CANNOT EXECUTE Movies can not be rotated.
CAN NOT ROTATE Retouch and red-eye removal are not available with movies, pictures taken with other cameras, or pictures that can not be played back.

NO CARD No memory card inserted when COPY COPY is selected in the playback menu. Insert a memory card.
SD NO IMAGE The source selected for COPY COPY contains no images. Select a different source.

DPOF FILE ERROR The DPOF print order on the current memory card contains more than 999 images. Copy the pictures to internal memory and create a new print order.
CAN NOT SET DPOF The picture can not be printed using DPOF.
CAN NOT SET DPOF Movies can not be printed using DPOF.
COMMUNICATION ERROR A connection error occurred while pictures were being printed or copied to a computer or other device. Confirm that the device is turned on and that the USB cable is connected.
PRINTER ERROR Printer out of paper or ink, or other printer error. Check printer (see printer manual for details). To resume printing, turn the printer off and then turn it back on.

CANNOT BE PRINTED An attempt was made to print a movie, a picture not created with the camera, or a picture in a format not supported by the printer. Movies and some pictures created with other devices can not be printed; if the picture is a still picture created with the camera, check the printer manual to confirm that the printer supports the JFIF-JPEG or Exif-JPEG format. If it does not, the pictures can not be printed.
Ensure the battery chamber cover is locked. Check that the battery-chamber cover is latched. Note that the cover may already be latched; this message merely encourages you to check that the cover is secure before proceeding.
