Basic Operations

Troubleshooting and error codes

Problem Solutions
Scan Quality Is Poor
  • Clean the scanner glass.
  • Do not press too hard on the original or the document cover.
  • Remove dust from the original.
  • Make appropriate document type settings.
  • Scan at a higher resolution.
  • Adjust the image in EPSON Scan.
Characters Are Blurred
  • In Home Mode or Office Mode, select 'Text Enhancement' under 'Image Adjustments'.
  • In Professional Mode, select 'Document' as the 'Auto Exposure Type'.
  • Adjust threshold settings (for Black & White image types).
  • Scan at a higher resolution.
An Image of the Reverse Side of the Original Appears in the Scanned Image
  • For thin originals, place black paper over it.
  • Make appropriate document type settings.
  • In Home Mode or Office Mode, select 'Text Enhancement'.
Moire (Cross-Hatch) Patterns Appear in the Scanned Image
  • Place the original at a slightly different angle.
  • Select 'Descreening' in modes other than 'Full Auto Mode'.
  • Change the resolution setting.
Scanning Area or Direction Is Not Correct
  • Align the original with the corner mark on the scanner glass.
  • Move the original slightly away from the corner if edges are cropped.
  • Clean the scanner glass and document cover.
  • Separate multiple originals by at least 20 mm (0.8 inch).
  • Set the scan area correctly.
  • Move original 4.5 mm (0.18 inch) away from scanner edges in Full Auto Mode or thumbnail preview.
  • Use marquees in 'Preview' tab for large originals in Home/Professional Mode.
  • Clear 'Auto Photo Orientation'.
  • Lower resolution or adjust scanning area if restricted.
The Scanned Image Problem Could Not be Cleared
  • Click 'Configuration', then 'Reset All' on the 'Other' tab in EPSON Scan.
  • Uninstall and re-install EPSON Scan if reset fails.
Cannot Scan in Full Auto Mode in EPSON Scan
  • Cannot scan to PDF/Multi-TIFF continuously in Full Auto Mode. Use another mode.
Thumbnail Preview Does Not Work Properly
  • See the EPSON Scan help.
Scanning Is Too Slow
  • Lower the resolution.
Scanning Stops when Scanning to PDF/Multi-TIFF
  • Scan in grayscale for large volumes.
  • Increase free space on the computer's hard disk.
  • Scan at a lower resolution.
Slight Electric Shock when Touching the Printer
  • Install a ground wire to the computer connected to the printer.
Operation Sounds Are Loud
  • Enable 'Quiet Mode'. Note: may reduce printing speed.
Application Is Blocked by a Firewall (for Windows Only)
  • Add the application to the Windows Firewall allowed program list.
