  • Charging the Battery: Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use. Connect the charger unit to a power outlet and insert the battery. The [CHARGE] lamp indicates charging status.
  • Loading the Battery: Open the battery cover, slide the battery in with the EXILIM logo facing downwards until it clicks, then close the cover.
  • Inserting a Memory Card: Turn off the camera, open the battery cover, and slide the memory card into the slot until it clicks. Close the battery cover. Format new memory cards before first use.
  • Taking a Snapshot: Turn on the camera, point it at the subject, half-press the shutter button to focus (the focus frame turns green), and then fully press the shutter button to take the picture.
  • Viewing Snapshots: Press the [PLAY] button to enter PLAY mode and view stored images. Use the left/right arrow buttons to scroll through them.
  • Deleting Images: In PLAY mode, select the image to delete, press the appropriate button to access delete options, and confirm the deletion. All files can also be deleted.
  • Turning the Camera On/Off: Press the [ON/OFF] button. The camera can also be set to automatically turn off after a period of inactivity.

Troubleshooting and error codes

3) "Memory Full"; transfer images, delete unneeded files, or use a new card.
Auto Focus does not focus properly 1) Dirty lens.
2) Subject not centered in focus frame.
3) Subject not compatible with AF (use manual focus).
4) Camera movement (use Anti Shake or tripod).
The subject is out of focus in the recorded image. Ensure the subject is within the focus frame when composing the image.
The flash does not fire. 1) Flash Off selected; change mode.
2) Battery dead; charge.
3) BEST SHOT scene with Flash Off selected; change flash mode or scene.
Camera powers down during Self-timer countdown. Battery may be dead; charge it.
The monitor screen image is out of focus. 1) Manual Focus used without focusing.
2) Macro mode used for scenery/portraits.
3) Close-up shot with incorrect mode.
There is a vertical line in the monitor screen image. CCD phenomenon (vertical smear); not a camera malfunction. Not recorded in snapshot images.
There is digital noise in images. 1) High sensitivity for dark subjects; use illumination.
2) Shooting in dark with Flash Off; turn on flash or use lights.
A recorded image was not saved. 1) Camera powered off before save complete; charge battery.
2) Memory card removed before save complete; do not remove card until save is finished.
Though available lighting is bright, the faces of people in the image are dark. Insufficient light on subjects; use flash or adjust EV shift.
Subjects are too dark when shooting images in a seashore or ski area. Sunlight reflection; use flash or adjust EV shift.
Digital zoom (including HD zoom) does not work. The zoom bar indicates zoom only up to a zoom factor of 3.0. 1) Digital zoom setting turned off.
2) Date stamping enabled; turn it off.
The image is out of focus during movie recording. 1) Subject outside focus range.
2) Dirty lens.
Playback
The color of the playback image is different from what appears on the monitor screen when shooting. Sunlight or other light shining into the lens; reposition camera.
Images are not displayed. Cannot display non-DCF images from other cameras.
Images cannot be edited (with resizing, trimming, rotation). Movies and snapshots from other cameras cannot be edited.
Other
The wrong date and time are displayed. Date and time setting is off; set correctly.
The messages on the display are in the wrong language. Wrong display language selected; change setting.
Images cannot be transferred over a USB connection. 1) USB cable connection loose.
2) Wrong USB protocol selected.
3) Camera not turned on.
Language selection screen appears when the camera is turned on. 1) Initial settings not configured or battery left dead; check setup.
2) Camera memory data problem; reset to initialize settings. If screen reappears, contact support.
