QUICK START GUIDE

First, charge the battery!

  1. Charge the rechargeable lithium ion battery (NP-20). It takes about 90 minutes for a full charge. The [CHARGE] lamp lights red during charging and goes out when complete.
  2. Load the battery into the camera.

To configure display language and clock settings

  1. Turn on the camera.
  2. Select the desired language using the navigation buttons and press [SET].
  3. Select the geographical area and city, then press [SET].
  4. Set summer time (DST) and date format, then press [SET].
  5. Set the date and time, then press [SET] to register and exit.

To record an image

  1. Press [O] (REC) to enter recording mode.
  2. Point the camera at the subject and press the shutter button halfway to compose and focus. The focus frame turns green when focus is achieved.
  3. Gently press the shutter button all the way down to capture the image.

To view a recorded image

  1. Press [P] (PLAY) to enter playback mode.
  2. Use the navigation buttons [◀] and [▶] to scroll through images.

To delete an image

  1. Press [P] (PLAY) to enter playback mode.
  2. Navigate to the image to be deleted.
  3. Use [▲] and [▼] to select "Delete" and press [SET].

Troubleshooting and error codes

Symptom Possible Cause Action
Auto Focus does not focus properly. 1) The lens is dirty.
2) The subject is not located in the center of the focus frame when you compose the image.
3) The subject you are shooting is a type that is not compatible with Auto Focus operation (page 58).
4) You are moving the camera.
1) Clean the lens.
2) Make sure the subject is centered in the focus frame when composing the image.
3) Use manual focus (page 80).
4) Turn on Anti Shake or mount the camera on a tripod (page 94).
The subject is out of focus in the recorded image. The image is not focused properly. When composing the image, make sure the subject on which you want to focus is located inside the focus frame (page 52).
Scenery shots are out of focus. 1) The image is not focused properly.
2) The wrong focus mode is selected.
3) The wrong BEST SHOT scene is selected.
1) When composing the image, make sure the subject on which you want to focus is located inside the focus frame (page 52).
2) Change the focus mode to "AF" (Auto Focus, page 75) or "∞" (infinity, page 79).
3) Change the BEST SHOT scene to “Scenery” (page 89).
The flash does not fire. 1) "[img:flash_off]" (flash off) is selected as the flash mode.
2) The battery is dead.
3) A scene that selects "[img:flash_off]" (flash off) as the flash mode is selected in the BEST SHOT mode.
1) Select a different flash mode (page 63).
2) Charge the battery (page 31).
3) Select a different flash mode (page 63) or BEST SHOT scene (page 89).
