Eden OSSD Operation Summary

The Eden OSSD is a coded non-contact safety sensor designed for interlocking devices like gates and hatches. It consists of two parts: Adam (the sensor) and Eva (the actuator). Adam detects the presence and coding of Eva. When Eva is detected and correctly coded, the OSSD outputs are activated, allowing the machine to operate. If Eva is removed or not correctly coded, the OSSD outputs switch to a safe state, stopping the machine.

Key operational aspects include:

  • Coded Operation: Uses unique or general coding for enhanced manipulation protection.
  • OSSD Outputs: Provides safety-related outputs that switch to a safe state upon safety function activation.
  • Information Output: Offers a non-safe output indicating Eva's presence.
  • Reset Functionality (on specific models): Allows for monitored local reset with an indication lamp.
  • Cascading: Up to 30 Eden sensors can be connected in series for expanded applications.

Installation and setup involve teaching the code of Eva to Adam, ensuring proper alignment, and connecting to a safety relay or safety PLC.

Troubleshooting and error codes

LED on Adam Expected causes of faults Corrective actions
Lights red Eva away from Adam Move Eva closer to Adam
Metal between Adam and Eva Remove the metal
No light Loss of power supply Check +24 VDC / 0 VDC power supply
Lights green/red (flashing) No input (Eva in position with Adam) Check the unit before in the safety circuit (make it active).
Fast flashing red Fail safe mode 1. Power cycle
2. Erase and reteach code
3. Replace unit
Fast flashing green At end of detection distance Move Eva closer to Adam.
